Step 2: Direction

Step 2 consultation closed on September 25, 2023. This step of the Solid Waste Management Plan renewal process focussed on reviewing the current solid waste system and setting the future direction.

During consultation, the CSWM invited input on the existing system, future trends, and draft goals and guiding principles for solid waste management over the next 10 years. The goals and principles were developed with input from the Regional Solid Waste Advisory Committee, which includes 15 members of the public, local government staff and business owners.

There were several ways to participate between June and September 2023:

  • Online Survey - closed Monday, September 25, 2023

  • Drop-in Open House – Maritime Heritage Centre, Campbell River– Tuesday, Sept 19, 2023
  • Community events across Strathcona and Comox Valley regional districts

Guiding Principles & Goals

The draft goals and guiding principles have been developed with input from the Regional Solid Waste Advisory Committee, a committee comprised of members of the public, local government staff and business owners.

The goals and guiding principles set the foundation for informing the specific strategies and initiatives that might be explored over the next 10 years. Your feedback during the Step 2 consultation will help ensure they reflect what is important across the Comox Strathcona Waste Management service area.
