May 2026 Update: Final Phases Update and Technical Studies

8 May 2026

Saratoga Beach Local Area Plan Update

The Saratoga Beach Local Area Plan (LAP) is entering its final phases. The draft plan is tentatively scheduled to be released on June 1, 2026 on Engage Comox Valley.

What is informing the draft plan?

The draft plan is being shaped by three key inputs:

  • Community feedback from the 2025 survey, open house, residents’ association meetings, and focus groups
  • An Environmental Baseline Study
  • A Septic Suitability Analysis

Environmental Baseline Study

The Environmental Baseline Study looks at natural features in the Saratoga Beach area, such as wetlands, streams, forested areas, and other ecological assets. It helps identify environmental values and priorities for protection, restoration, and careful management.

Septic Suitability Analysis

The Septic Suitability Analysis looks at local conditions that affect on-site sewage systems, including soil quality, drainage, and depth to water. It helps clarify where septic conditions may limit what can be supported over time.

Upcoming engagement opportunities

Online survey

A public survey is tentatively scheduled to be available on the Engage Comox Valley project page from June 1 to June 15, 2026 to gather feedback on the draft plan and its overall direction.

A drop-in open house is also planned for June 1, 2026 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at:

Oyster River Fire Hall
2241 Catherwood Road

What happens next?

After public feedback is reviewed, the draft plan will be refined before moving through the bylaw process. This includes Committee and Board consideration, referrals, a public hearing, and tentative adoption later in 2026.
