Project overview

Woodcote Park is a four-acre community park between Cumberland Road, Willemar Avenue and 17th Street in West Courtenay.

The City of Courtenay has begun the process of installing a new playground at Woodcote Park. This project will replace the former play structures with a modern, inclusive, and engaging play space following the City’s Let’s Play, Courtenay! playground design standards.

The previous equipment has been removed, and the site is now ready for installation of the new features. Drainage improvements and concrete work are currently underway, and the main play structure is expected to be installed by the end of December.

Some important elements, such as the rubber play surface and concrete runnel, require warmer weather, so those final components will be completed in March 2026. The construction area will remain fenced and closed to the public throughout the winter. The new playground is anticipated to open in April 2026.

We understand that this delay may be disappointing – we too are excited about this renewed playground for the community and can’t wait to see kids and families playing on it. Thank you for your patience!

At the May 21, 2025, council meeting, council endorsed the preferred concept Plan for Woodcote Park (image below) and directed staff to proceed with detailed design and procurement, in alignment with the project’s approved capital budget.

The preferred concept was shaped through community input gathered during public engagement, including survey responses and interest holder sessions. A summary of this input is available in the Woodcote Park Playground Replacement and Upgrade What We Heard Report.
