Cumberland, BC – The long-term plan for wastewater management in the Village is moving into its final stage this fall.

The Liquid Waste Management Plan (LWMP) – a long-term plan required by the Province of BC – was started originally in 2016 with Stages 1 and 2 completed and submitted in 2018. That plan mapped out critical next steps for the Wastewater Upgrade Project, and the Village turned its focus to the urgent and necessary improvements for the wastewater treatment lagoons.

With the Wastewater Upgrades project now well in hand, the Village is looping back to the final step in the LWMP process – Stage 3, to be completed by the end of 2024. Stage 3 is largely focused on ‘wrapping up’ the intensive planning work of earlier stages: reporting back to the community about the plan ahead, completing the environmental impact study, and completing the operational certificate process for wastewater management into the future.

“Wastewater treatment upgrades are a critical strategic goal for Council and we are so excited to invite the public back to provide their feedback on the latest design as we complete stage 3 of the LWMP process. Residents have been so supportive of our work on this and we are very much looking forward to seeing this project move toward our operational certificate from the Province,” said Mayor Vickey Brown.

Cumberland residents are invited to learn more and offer their input by attending one of two information sessions being held on September 26, 2024. Both sessions will be held in Council Chambers and will cover the same material, including a presentation and Q&A session:

• Session #1: Sept. 26, 4:45pm – 5:45pm
• Session #2: Sept. 26, 6:00pm – 7:00pm
