News Release: One-Way Traffic and Overnight Road Closure on Comox Road Moves to Comox Hill
1 May 2025
The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), as part of the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project, is required to implement a traffic pattern change on Comox Road. Beginning Monday, May 12, 2025, the one-way section of Comox Road will move to Comox Hill (MAP 1). One-way traffic for Comox Hill, as well as sections of Comox Road, is estimated to last until September 2025.
The traffic pattern change is being implemented for the construction of the new sewer forcemain pipe. The one-way traffic pattern is required as the width of Comox Hill is not possible to safely accommodate two lanes of traffic and the required construction.

17th Street Bridge
The section of Comox Road which is currently closed will re-open to traffic mid-morning on May 12, 2025. Vehicle traffic crossing the 17th Street Bridge will be able to turn right onto Comox Road. Two way-traffic will be possible, but only up to the construction zone. A U-turn route has been identified for traffic to turn around safely (MAP 1).
Traffic light timing at the 17th Street Bridge will continue to be timed to two-way traffic for the duration of road closures on Comox Road. Traffic traveling east on Comox Road/Highway 19A will be unable to continue through the intersection (MAP 2). This is required to ensure that traffic continues to flow along the approved detour route as per the traffic management plan.
Approved Detour Route
All vehicle traffic bound for the Town of Comox will continue to be detoured onto the official detour route, up Ryan Road and onto Lerwick Road (MAP 3). Traffic light timing is being monitored throughout construction to ensure that traffic continues to flow.
