Lazo Road Area Sewer Conveyance Route Webinar

9 June 2023

The Comox Valley Regional District is undergoing a confidential Design-Build procurement process for the Sewer Conveyance Project which includes the portion of the pipe that will be constructed through Lazo Hill. Through this process, several significant challenges with the tunnelling methodology have been identified to which the Comox Valley Regional District concluded that the construction risk through Lazo Hill is too high. After re-evaluation of the shortlist conveyance options for the Liquid Waste Management Plan process, the CVRD determined that the traditional trenching methods (cut and cover) can be utilized.

Project staff proceeded with a geotechnical, environmental and civil engineering analysis on three route options from the top of Lazo Hill to the Comox Valley Water Pollution Control Centre (CVWPCC). These routes included Curtis Road, Lazo Road to Brent Road (Lazo-Brent Route) and Morland Road, crossing Lazo Marsh (Morland-Marsh Route).

At its meeting on June 6, the Sewage Commission agreed that Lazo-Brent Route is the preferred option with further due diligence required while the Morland – Marsh Route will remain as an alternative if required.

Detailed information regarding the final route alignment will be included in an online presentation for the public Monday, June 26, from 7 to 8 p.m. Participants are required to preregister to confirm attendance at https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_zxtGElfWTFWGRzu8JhL7Gg
