Update to the Traffic Management Plan and Groundwater Protection Policy for Lazo Hill Area Residents

17 November 2023

In June, the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) engaged with Lazo Hill area and Electoral District Area B residents to provide an update to the Sewer Conveyance Project regarding the altered methodology and route alignment of the sewer forcemain along Lazo and Brent roads.

During the presentations, the project staff explained the rationale for the revision and the preferred route for the new alignment that would require additional feasibility studies to confirm viability. We are pleased to inform you that the sewer forcemain installation along Lazo and Brent roads is indeed viable and the CVRD will be pursuing this route alignment.

As a consequence of these modifications, we informed the community in June that traffic disruptions during construction will be changed along the new alignment route. The project staff also reported that the revised open cut installation approach will modify the impact on groundwater wells.

Amendments were made to the Traffic Management Strategy (TMS) and the Groundwater Protection Policy to reflect the modified installation and alignment. In keeping with our commitment to this community, the CVRD will present the revised Groundwater Protection Policy and the amended TMS report.

An online webinar is planned for the community: Thursday, December 7 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.

If you are unable to attend, a recording of the webinar and the presentation package will be shared on the project website for future reference.
