Construction Update: Farmview Road
11 December 2024
On January 6, 2025, crews will begin clearing Farmview Road in preparation for construction of the new sewer forcemain. Farmview Road will be closed at this time and will remain closed until work has been completed.
The week of December 16, 2024, equipment and machinery will be moved and stored on Farmview Road in preparation for work in the new year.
Work on Farmview Road will take place in two sections – moving in opposite direction [MAP 1].
Section 1 is an archaeological zone. Work in this section will move slowly westward. We estimate that work in Section 1 will last six weeks, from January 6 to February 15, 2025.
Section 2 will move east along Farmview Road, then head east across farm fields. We estimate that it will take approximately two weeks to complete the portion of this section on Farmview Road.
What you need to know:
- Construction days/times: Monday –Saturday, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm.
- Pedestrians: Farmview Road is very narrow and the entire width of the road will be a construction zone. Farmview Road will not be accessible as a pedestrian path for the duration of construction.
- Emergency Services: Access is guaranteed.
- No Parking on Farmview Road: Parking on Farmview Road will not be possible during construction. Farmview Road is too narrow to safely accommodate construction, equipment storage as well as public parking. We apologize for this inconvenience.
- Access From Farmview Road:
- Residents who use Farmview Road as the sole entrance to their property will receive detailed information about property access.
- If you have a driveway or garden gate on Farmview Road accessing your property from Farmview Road will not be possible during construction. The portion of the public right-of-way on the south side of Farmview Road will be used as a storage area for the large diameter sewer forcemain pipe. It may obstruct garden gates and driveways. Please use Comox Road to enter and exit your property for the duration of construction.
- Please ensure that all vehicles you require access to are moved such that they can be accessed from Comox Road before January 6, 2025.
- We appreciate that is may be a large inconvenience and change to how you would typically come and go from your property. We apologize for the disruption and appreciate your help and cooperation as we complete this large infrastructure upgrade.
- Noise and Vibration: During construction there will be times when you will hear loud continuous noises (there may be times when a vacuum truck needs to be used and it can be very loud). You may also feel vibrations from digging as well as compacting. This can be unsettling. The vibrations are not of a magnitude to damage property.
- Waste Collection: There will be no change to waste collection at this time.
- One-way Traffic on Comox Road: One-way west-bound traffic, from Town of Comox to City of Courtenay, will be starting in the spring of 2025. More information regarding uni-directional traffic on Comox Road will be shared in the new year.
Unforeseen issues may arise that require changes to our plans. We apologize if our timelines shift or plans change. Safety of residents and workers is our number one priority. If there are circumstances which require us to change our plans due to safety concerns, we will communicate them as quickly as possible.
