Construction Schedule Changes – Delayed Crossing Through Balmoral Avenue and Pritchard Road Intersection

Installation of the sewer forcemain along Balmoral Avenue west of Pritchard Road has been completed. The initial construction schedule had construction crossing the intersection of Balmoral Avenue and Pritchard Road around June 17, 2024. This crossing has been delayed.

The Balmoral/Pritchard intersection is a difficult deep crossing going under some Town of Comox infrastructure. Due to current ground conditions the contractor has required extra time to plan this crossing to ensure safety for their staff and the public.

We expect construction to cross the intersection early July. We will keep the public updated on any schedule changes. Traffic management planning will depend on active construction. If possible, plan to avoid this intersection and use alternate routes and follow posted signage.

At this time, work continues at the Stewart Street and Comox Road intersection. Wacor is replacing some storm sewer within the intersection that was identified for replacement as part of the construction project. Wacor is also installing curb and gutter along Stewart and preparing paving along Stewart. This work will impact traffic and will require single-lane alternating traffic along Comox Avenue, beginning the week of June 24, 2024. It may also require detours near and around this intersection which may move depending on the work being completed. Please allow extra time for travel and follow all posted signage and detours.

We would like to assure residents that pedestrian access to residences and businesses will be maintained. Emergency vehicle access permitted at all times. Prior to construction moving through the intersection of Balmoral Avenue and Pritchard Road, residents on the East side of Pritchard Road will receive details on waste collection pick up during construction.
