Construction Schedule: Beaufort Avenue (Jane Place to Nordin Street)
16 September 2024
Construction will be resuming on Beaufort Avenue at the top of Jane Place starting mid-to-late September. Construction will move along Beaufort Avenue in two-block sections moving west (towards Nordin Street) requiring portions of the street to be closed during the day Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 8:00 pm.
In addition to the construction of the new sewer forcemain pipe, in partnership with the Town of Comox, the contractor will also be completing necessary Town infrastructure upgrades. These include water, sewer, street lighting, curbs and sidewalks. This construction will follow the sewer forcemain construction. The nature of this type of construction project can often result in unforeseen issues being uncovered and remedied. Construction project timelines can change at a moment’s notice, sometimes significantly. We try to communicate changes as quickly as we can, but there is often a delay as we gather information and try to estimate new timelines.

- Emergency services access is guaranteed.
- If/when construction is in front or adjacent to your home or business, street parking will not be available and there will be limited or no vehicles access.
- The construction team will communicate with you directly nearing the time of construction to inform you of when/if driveways will not be accessible.
- It is recommended that you park outside the construction zone, especially if you require immediate ability to leave in your vehicle between 7:00 am – 8:00 pm.
- Access to the multi-family dwellings (1720 and 1742 Balmoral Avenue) are guaranteed vehicle access to their parking lots. There may be times when they will not be accessible or there will be significant delays. The contractor will communicate directly with you nearing the time of construction regarding access.
Construction Mid-Late September
Pressure testing of the forcemain pipe installed last spring will occur mid-to-late September. This may require a localized temporary road closure of Beaufort Ave from Stewart Street to Jane Place.
Some gas and water lines need to be moved to accommodate the upcoming forcemain construction. Fortis has scheduled this work to happen mid-to-late September, estimated to start the week of September 23, and will take two to three days. There may be driveway impacts to homes at or near the intersection of Beaufort Avenue and Jane Place. The construction team will communicate directly with these households nearing the time of construction regarding driveway access.
Construction Late September and/or Early October
There are two large, buried valve chambers being installed in the intersection of Jane Place and Beaufort Avenue. Work is estimated to start after September 30. A large crane will be mobilized to facilitate the installation of the valve chambers. Access will be restricted. Forcemain construction will then continue west along Beaufort from Jane towards Nordin.
Jane Place residents will be provided access, however, please anticipate significant delays.
- If you require the ability to leave Jane Place with a vehicle at short notice, please park outside of the construction zone.
If your home is on Beaufort Avenue, directly adjacent to the Jane Place intersection, your driveway may not be accessible for some or all the time during the installation of the valve chamber. The contractor will be delivering driveway notices when exact dates are known.
- If you require the ability to leave your home with a vehicle at short notice, please park outside of the construction zone.
If good weather prevails and timeline permits, paving will be completed on Stewart Street and Beaufort Avenue from Comox Avenue to Jane Place. If this cannot be completed this fall, paving of this section will be completed in spring 2025.
Town of Comox Waste Collection
Please follow these procedures to ensure uninterrupted services of waste collection during construction:
- Clear Labeling: To facilitate smooth handling and return of bins, please ensure that all bins are clearly labeled with your home address. All bins have a space on the front for the address to be written in with permanent marker.
- Placement of Waste Bins: During periods when roads are fully closed, residents are required to place their garbage bins along the curb by 7:00 am on scheduled pickup days. Note that this time is earlier than the usual curbside time of 8:00 am.
- Collection by Crews: Contractor crews will retrieve the bins placed along the curb and bring them to a central location outside the road closure area for collection by the waste management trucks.
- Return of Bins: Following collection, bins will be returned to their respective homes by the end of the day.
Private Waste Collection
Private haulers will be provided access to bins, working directly with the contractor. Some delays may occur as a result of construction.
