Construction Notice: Beaufort Avenue, Beach Dr to Rodello St

11 December 2024

Construction has begun on Beaufort Avenue between Beach Drive and Rodello Street. Work is currently focused on completing necessary Town infrastructure upgrades, including water and storm mains.

As part of construction, we will be working within the public right-of-way in front of properties on this block, north and south sides [MAP 1]. We want to provide residents an opportunity to make any necessary arrangements for the removal of landscaping from the work site. Landscaping can include:

  • Trees
  • Shrubs
  • Decorative rocks
  • Drain rock
  • Flagstone pathways

Please remove plants and small pavers or flagstones prior to January 6, 2025.

If there are large landscaping rocks, the contractor can move these aside to a temporary location at the front of properties. Driveways constructed with pavers will be taken apart and re-assembled to the same configuration as prior to construction. Please contact the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) if there are any questions about this. If there are any mature trees, the contractor will endeavor to protect them as per recommendations of an arborist, however we cannot guarantee their health post construction.

The CVRD and the Town of Comox are not responsible for replacing any landscaping put in at homeowners’ expense within the road right-of-way. Upon completion of this portion of the project, the right-of-way will be topsoiled and seeded.

Important Information:

  • Dates: December 9 – December 20, 2024. There will be a two-week pause, December 20, 2024 to January 6, 2025, for the holidays. Work will resume January 6, 2025 and is estimated to last four weeks.
  • Construction days/times: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 8:00 pm.
  • Road Closed: Beaufort Avenue will be closed, Beach Drive to Rodello Street, to public vehicle through traffic. Resident access only. During the holiday break, the road will be re-opened.
  • Pedestrian Access: Pedestrian access is guaranteed.
  • Emergency Services: Access is guaranteed.
  • Driveway Restrictions: As part of construction driveways will be impacted. The construction team will communicate with impacted properties nearing the time of construction to inform them of when/if driveways will not be accessible. The scope of the work is to replace driveways like for like. Please be advised that concrete driveways have a cure time of 7 to 10 days, whereby it is not possible to drive on them.
  • Noise and Vibration: During construction there will be times when there will be loud continuous noises (there may be times when a vacuum truck needs to be used and it can be very loud). There may also be vibrations from digging as well as compacting. This can be unsettling. The vibrations are not of a magnitude to damage property.
  • Please Plan for Extra Time: It is recommended that residents park outside the construction zone, especially if they require immediate ability to leave in a vehicle between 7:00 am – 8:00 pm. The construction crew do their best to get residents in and out of the construction zone as quickly as possible, however there will be times when there is a delay to accommodate moving equipment or to make it safe to exit or enter.

Looking ahead, construction for the sewer forcemain as well as Town of Comox infrastructure upgrades will continue into the spring/summer of 2025.

Estimated Schedule:

  • December – February: Town of Comox Infrastructure Upgrades
  • March - May: Sewer Conveyance Forcemain Construction
  • June – August: Town of Comox Infrastructure upgrades, finishing work which can include curbs, seeding and paving as well as any outstanding work on Town infrastucture

Unforeseen issues may arise that require changes to our plans. We apologize if our timelines shift or plans change.

We appreciate our community's cooperation in helping to improve the sewer system infrastructure.
