Constrcution Update: Beaufort Ave, Ellis St to Rodello St

28 April 2025

Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project: Work on Beaufort Avenue, from Ellis Street to Rodello Street, is almost complete. The large diameter pipe has been successfully installed. Work remains to connect the pipe to air management infrastructure. This work is estimated to be completed in the next few months.

Town of Comox Infrastructure Improvements: Construction from Ellis St to Rodello St is most impactful to the north side of Beaufort Ave. Storm main replacement is estimated to begin the first week of May for four-five weeks . Work to complete the curbs and impacted driveways will be completed once the storm main replacement is complete. We estimate that this work will take from June to July start at Ellis St moving towards Rodello and will be followed by paving. Final remediation to the right-of-way, including seeding will occur in the Fall 2025.

  • Scope of work on Beaufort Ave from Ellis St to Rodello St:
    • Ellis St – Bay Ct: New catch basins, tie-in of property drains & north side new curb
    • Bay Ct – Carthew St: North side storm main replacement, tie-in of property drains, & new curb
    • Carthew St to Rodello St: North side new curb (storm work was completed in January 2025)

Driveway Restrictions: As part of construction for curbs and sidewalks, driveways will be impacted on the north side of Beaufort Ave. The construction team will communicate with impacted properties nearing the time of construction to inform you of when/if driveways will not be accessible. The scope of the work is to replace driveways like for like. Please be advised that concrete driveways/curb letdowns have a cure time of 7 to 10 days, whereby it is not possible to drive on them.

Important Information:

  • Construction days/times: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 8:00 pm.
  • Road Closed: Beaufort Avenue will be closed to traffic in one to two block sections. Resident access only. Access to individual properties will change depending on construction (from East or West Beaufort Ave). Please follow the detour signage.
  • Pedestrian Access: Pedestrian access to your home is guaranteed. \
  • Emergency Services: Access is guaranteed.
  • Noise and Vibration: During construction there will be times when you will hear loud continuous noises (there may be times when a vacuum truck needs to be used and it can be very loud). You may also feel vibrations from digging as well as compacting. This can be unsettling. The vibrations are not of a magnitude to damage property.
  • Please Plan for Extra Time: It is recommended that you park outside the construction zone, especially if you require immediate ability to leave in your vehicle between 7:00 am – 8:00 pm. The construction crew do their best to get residents in and out of the construction zone as quickly as possible; however, there will be times when there is a delay to accommodate moving equipment or making it safe to exit or enter.
